A mild-mannered father is transformed into a killing machine after his family is torn apart by a violent act.
Bruce Willis’ “Death Wish” reboot has been pushed back from Nov. 22 to March 2.
Megan Ellison’s Annapurna Pictures launched a new distribution operation in August, coinciding with the release of Kathryn Bigelow’s historical drama “Detroit,” which will distribute the pic. The label’s second film, Ben Stiller comedy-drama “Brad’s Status,” has grossed $1.9 million in limited release since its Sept. 15 launch.
“Hostel” director Eli Roth helmed the “Death Wish” remake and former MGM co-chairman Roger Birnbaum is producing. The new “Death Wish” also stars Vincent D’Onofrio, Kimberly Elise, Mike Epps, and Elisabeth Shue.
Paramount released the original “Death Wish,” starring Charles Bronson, in 1974 with Michael Winner directing and Dino De Laurentiis producing. The film was based on the Brian Garfield novel about vigilante Paul Kersey, who goes after criminals when his wife is murdered and his daughter is left catatonic after being sexually assaulted during a home invasion.
MGM’s Death Wish remake is dropping back to 2018. Deadline reports that Eli Roth’s Bruce Willis action vehicle will now bow in theaters on March 2 next year, in order to evacuate the crowded Thanksgiving season. Yeah, suuuuure. I’m certain it has nothing to do with the fact that an old white guy just killed 58 people and wounded more than 500, sparking conversations about gun culture, media violence, and toxic masculinity once again.
Director Eli Roth’s reimagining of the classic 1974 revenge thriller

Originally scheduled for release on November 22 by Annapurna Pictures, MGM’s Eli Roth-directed remake of Death Wish now has a new weekend to call home.
Likely because of several other films releasing that date, including Polaroid and Coco, Roth’s Death Wish will now arrive on the big screen on March 2, 2018.
Bruce Willis stars as vigilante Paul Kersey in the remake.
In the film…
“Dr. Paul Kersey (Bruce Willis) is a surgeon who only sees the aftermath of Chicago violence when it is rushed into his ER – until his wife (Elisabeth Shue) and college-age daughter (Camila Morrone) are viciously attacked in their suburban home. With the police overloaded with crimes, Paul, burning for revenge, hunts his family’s assailants to deliver justice. As the anonymous slayings of criminals grabs the media’s attention, the city wonders if this deadly vigilante is a guardian angel or a grim reaper.”
Vincent D’Onofrio, Dean Norris and Mike Epps also star.
Beau Knapp (The Nice Guys, upcoming Death Wish), Jade Pettyjohn (School of Rock, upcoming Trial by Fire), Toby Huss (Halt and Catch Fire, upcoming LAbyrinth), Zach Villa (Dan Is Dead), James Jordan (Wind River), and Shamier Anderson (Shots Fired) have come aboard Karyn Kusama’s crime thriller, Destroyer, which stars Nicole Kidman. The film, written by Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi, is currently shooting in Los Angeles.
2017 is proving to be the year of Jack Kesy. Thought the young actor had already made a bit of a splash on FX’s “The Strain,” his breakthrough came earlier this year with his memorable performance as Roller on the first season of the addictive crime drama “Claws” and his star continues to rise with a number of movies coming in 2018 including an appearance in the Death Wish remake.
